Pandemic EBT Means for Food for Those Who Need It Most

Friday, Jul 10, 2020

This week SCDSS began administering P-EBT, a one-time benefit to help supplement family food costs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged school closures. K-12 students in South Carolina, who are enrolled in a free or reduced-price school meals program under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or are enrolled in a school that has opted to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), are eligible to receive P-EBT. The SC Department of Education has worked with DSS and identified more than 467,000 children who are eligible to receive PEBT benefits. For most children, this is a $330 benefit. Preliminary estimates by DSS indicate the state will issue approximately $154,445,741 in federal SNAP benefits under the P-EBT program, which will also means support to local economies. See the news story here and read more about P-EBT here.
