May is National Community Action Month, and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Action Network recognizes that any national crisis always hits the families Community Action serves the hardest. In order to help raise awareness about Community Action, GLEAMNS reached out to Greenwood Mayor Brandon Smith to request that he designate May 2020 as Community Action Month. Receiving a mayoral proclamation, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic, would help to further affirm the efforts of the Community Action Network. Unlike some organizations that can adapt to staff working remotely or changing their work environment, Community Action can only be effective when we are IN the community, particularly those communities where there are fewer resources to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
As requested, Mayor Smith recently signed the proclamation to declare May 2020 as Community Action Month. The proclamation is much appreciated, as it recognizes the hard work and dedication of GLEAMNS and all Community Action Agencies during this pandemic.
